Ryan Watches a Motion Picture #2: Hamlet 2 (2008)

Steve Coogan as a talentless actor turned drama teacher, struggling to keep arts education alive at a high school by writing a musical sequel to Hamlet? Yes please. Watching Coogan brandish the mastery he has over his face is the treat that carries this comedy along until we get to the real money: the presentation of the actual play. How I wish more of the film involved the showing of this play, though. How I wish there actually was a sequel to Hamlet. And how I wish it did, in fact, involve a time machine, and that I thought of it.

So: Worth checking out if you don't mind the 'Rock Me Sexy Jesus' number getting stuck in your head for a week.

This is not a great movie by any stretch, but "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" is inspired. That, and the inexplicable presence of Elizabeth Shue.
