Ryan Watches a Motion Picture #12: Moon (2009)

Mike reviewed it already here, and there's not a whole lot left I can say. But I'll draw some more attention to this gem in case anyone missed it the first time around.

Moon's a sci fi film done with a real love of classic science fiction, and its quiet, adult approach is the kind of treat that reminds you why science fiction can be such a fascinating and moving genre. Moon is funny, charming, even frightening at times, and is full of humanity. Sam Rockwell's performance is compelling and nuanced - there are so many scenes that could have gone entirely wrong if played a little too fiercely or a little too lightly, and Rockwell handled them carefully. His quiet expressions as he watches the messages he receives from Earth pack a lot of pathos, and seem to be stuck in my mind.

So: Watch it.
