This Week's New Releases

Appaloosa - A western by Ed Harris, with Viggo Mortensen, Renée Zellweger and Jeremy Irons. The story is adapted from Robert B. Parker's novel of the same name, centered on a pair of friends hired to protect a lawless town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher. The arrival of an attractive widow disrupts their plans.

Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach - Seann William Scott reunited with his Dude, Where's My Car? director Danny Leiner. Well, some of us are excited.

Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.0 - Get ready for the final episodes with the first half of the last season.

Brick Lane - Nazneen’s life is turned upside down at the tender age of seventeen. Forced into an arranged marriage to an older man, she exchanges her Bangladeshi village home for a block of flats in London’s East End. In this new world, pining for her home and her sister, she struggles to make sense of her existence – and to do her duty to her husband. A man of inflated ideas (and stomach), he sorely tests her compliance. Told from birth that she must not fight her fate, Nazneen submits, devoting her life to raising her family and slapping down her demons of discontent. Until the day that Karim, a hot-headed local man, bursts into her life. Against a background of escalating racial tension, they embark on an affair that finally forces Nazneen to take control of her life. Set in multicultural Britain, Brick Lane is a truly contemporary story of love, cultural difference, and ultimately, the strength of the human spirit.

The Business - We've had this forever as an import, but now you can see it on a domestic disc if you're not region-free.

Bustin' Down the Door - During the winter of 1975 in Hawaii, surfing was shaken to its core. A group of young surfers from Australia and South Africa sacrificed everything and put it all on the line to create a sport, a culture, and an industry that is today worth billions of dollars and has captured the imagination of the world. With a radical new approach and a brash colonial attitude, these surfers crashed headlong into a culture that was not ready for revolution.

Surfing was never to be the same again.

Louis C.K.: Chewed Up - Standup from the director of Pootie Tang.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - The story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he's too shy to talk to. Starring Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, Felicia Day as Penny. A Joss Whedon joint.

The Family That Preys Together - We have lost money on every Tyler Perry movie we buy. Still we get requests for them. This is your last chance.

Glue - A comedy/drama set in a small town in vast, empty Patagonia -- the gawky Lucas, a time bomb of hormones, boredom, and family alienation, hangs out with his hunky and horny best friend, Nacho, and bespectacled, mousey gal pal, Andrea. The threesome cope with the trials of burgeoning adolescence by getting high and getting off, mostly, in variations with each other.

Hamlet - Unusual Bizarro version of Hamlet with the text remaining unchanged but the settings & character personalities are altered dramatically in unsettling ways.

He Likes Guys - Collection of funny & sometimes steamy gay short films from various festivals.

Little Britain USA - The same characters, plus some new ones. This time in America.

Mirrors - An ex-cop (Kiefer Sutherland) and his family are the target of a evil force that is using mirrors as a gateway into their home.

My Best Friend's Girl - Tank (Dane Cook) faces the ultimate test of friendship when his best friend hires him to take his ex-girlfriend (Kate Hudson) out on a lousy date in order to make her realize how great her former boyfriend is.

Ping Pong Playa - Christopher "C-dub" Wang is a Chinese-American gangsta-rapper wannabe with outrageous, and unlikely, dreams of becoming a pro basketball star. When his ping pong champion brother gets hurt, it's up to C-dub to pick up the paddle and save the family business. But when he's facing off against a devious rival player in the ping pong tournament of the year, will C-dub be up to the challenge? With some surprising help from an unusual group of kids, anything could happen!

Secret Diary of a Call Girl: Season 1 - To her friends and family she is Hannah, a legal secretary clocking in regular hours and enjoying a "normal" life. To her clients, she is Belle, the answer to every man's fantasies. To you, she is DR. WHO's Billie Piper so watch it if you want to see her boobies.

Swing Vote - Kevin Costner has to cast the deciding vote in a U.S. presidential contest between two Republicans (Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammer). Sounds about right.
